When unmanned probes suggest that a hidden ocean, possibly containing single-celled life, could exist underneath the icy surface of Jupiter’s Moon Europa, a privately funded space exploration company sends six of the best astronauts from around the world to confirm the data and explore the revolutionary discovery.
After a near-catastrophic technical failure, the astronauts must overcome the psychological and physical toll of deep space travel, and survive a discovery on Europa more profound than they had ever imagined.
Europa Report encompasses the documentary, alternative history and science fiction thriller genres. Developed in close collaboration with NASA, JPL, SpaceX and other leaders in the scientific community, the film imagines the next step in manned space exploration and is based on recent scientific discoveries and theories.
Starring Sharlto Copley, known for his acclaimed roles in Neill Blomkamp’s Distrct 9 and Elysium, the film is the English language debut of director Sebastián Cordero, who once again teams up with two previous collaborators, Academy Award winning Production Designer Eugenio Caballero (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Impossible) and Director of Photography Enrique Chediak (127 Hours).
The film further cements its sci-fi credentials with music by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead).
Europa Report is available exclusively on VOD and Digital Download from the 3rd March.
