Vera is a compelling new adaptation from ITV Studios Home Entertainment which follows the story of Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope as she works with her team to uncover sinister secrets and mysterious disappearances. Originally penned by acclaimed crime writer Ann Cleeves, this dramatic new series is available on DVD from May 30th 2011.
Centered around the courageous and determined Inspector Vera Stanhope, played by international award-winning actress Brenda Blethwyn OBE (Secrets and Lies, Pride and Prejudice, Atonement), the unusual heroine is assisted by her long-suffering but unwavering team including Sergeant Joe Ashworth (David Leon), DC Holly Lawson (Wunmi Mosaku) and Forensic Pathologist Billy Cartwright (Paul Ritter).
The four part series begins with Vera delving into the bleak and poetic Northumberland coast to unearth the truth about a strange double murder, however with her sharp yet shambolic methods it isn’t long before the series continues and she is drawn into a world of obscurity as she and her team must approach each new case with unparalleled gusto and professionalism.
Directed by Adrian Shergold (Persuasion, Dirty Filthy Love) and produced by Kate Bartlett (Marchlands, Identity) this captivating new series brings a strong contemporary edge to traditional crime dramas and once again proves that ITV Studios Home Entertainment is the home of the modern crime thriller, with Vera joining a pantheon of greats after this, only her first series.
