The film trilogy is a hard thing to do. To keep new ideas flowing and creativity sparking throughout is one of Hollywood’s toughest tricks, so to say that Pixar may have made one of cinema’s greatest trilogy’s in the form of Toy Story is the highest of praises indeed.
Toy Story 3 sees Woody, Buzz and the old gang (minus a few lesser known faces) having to deal with Andy going off to university. Faced with the fear of being trashed, they jump into a mysterious box labelled ‘day care.’
They end up at Sunnyside, a place that seems like a paradise for the toys and are greeted by a raft of new toys, headed up by the genial old bear ‘Lotso’ and a very fashion conscious Ken doll. But everything’s not quite as it should be and Woody has to get them out of trouble once again.
As ever with the work of Pixar, the enjoyment and delight of these films doesn’t stop after getting a mortgage and Toy Story 3 is a film that you soon run out of superlatives for. Funny, gripping and emotionally poignant with fantastic characters throughout, Toy Story 3 is a classic in waiting.
The film is only the start of this package though, as this Blu-ray version of Toy Story 3 comes absolutely loaded with extras, all in high definition.
These range from the usual cast interviews to fascinating round-table discussions to a truly fantastic commentary which also shows the design phases of the film while it’s still playing. With extras reflecting every side of the film, this is how extras should be done.
Pixar films have always looked fantastic and Toy Story 3 is absolutely no different. Gorgeous, bright colours as well as a timeless art design and some really great lighting make Toy Story 3 a delight to behold and makes a great showcase for the talents of Blu-ray.
Despite being nearly a year old, Toy Story 3 remains one of the most appealing Blu-ray packages on sale. Stunning picture quality, fantastic exclusive special features and even a bonus DVD copy make Toy Story 3 a must-have for not just families, but all film lovers alike.
