More is revealed about megalomaniac Klaus’s (Joseph Morgan) malevolent plans to build a hybrid army, and his suspicious motives for wanting Stefan (Paul Wesley) on his side are finally unveiled with sinister consequences for Elena (Nina Dobrev). Stefan finds himself slipping away from his humanity and the previously ‘good’ vampire shows just how far he will go as his dark side is exposed.
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena find themselves growing closer in their battle to bring Stefan back from the edge, and struggle with guilt as their relationship moves to the next level.
The question is, has Damon finally won the prize in the ultimate love triangle now that Stefan has pushed Elena away?
Elsewhere in Mystic Falls, Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) mysterious connection to the ghost of Anna leads him to the only person with the power to stop Klaus, but has a devastating impact on his relationship with Bonnie (Kat Graham) in the process.
Another relationship is put under pressure as Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) new hybrid status causes friction between him and Caroline (Candice Accola), and events take a turn for the worse as a tense war erupts between their families.
