The Tale Of Despereaux tells the story of a group of unlikely heroes who live in the kingdom of Dor, each wishing for a different and more exciting life.
Following a tragedy on Royal Soup Day, the kingdom is plunged into darkness leaving the townsfolk in despair at the thought of the sun never shining in Dor again. Just when they think nothing will change, along comes an adorable little mouse with over-sized ears to save the day!
Banished from Mouseworld for being more man than mouse, brave little Despereaux befriends the lonely but beautiful Princess Pea (Emma Watson - Harry Potter), and he promises to help restore happiness to the kingdom. Determined to make the fairy tales he has read a reality, Despereaux sets out on an exciting quest to rescue his fair maiden.
As Despereaux’s adventures begin, he meets a whole host of interesting characters, good and bad, all of whom are dreaming of a fairy tale ending. Amongst them are Roscuro (Dustin Hoffman - Kung Fu Panda), a good-hearted but misunderstood rat, who dreams of returning to the freedom of the wide open seas and Miggery Sow (Tracey Ullman - Corpse Bride), a servant girl from the countryside, who longs to become a beautiful princess.
Brought together by a longing to live their dreams by any means possible, these two outcasts hatch a plan to kidnap the Princess and hand her over to evil rat Botticelli (Ciaran Hinds - In Bruges).
As swashbuckling Despereaux tries to fulfil his promise to Princess Pea, he faces his toughest challenge yet to rescue his Princess and save the whole kingdom.
In the face of such adversity, Despereaux’s courage, along with unlikely comrade Boldo (Stanley Tucci - Space Chimps), helps him save the Princess, allowing sunshine to return to Dor once again!
The Tale Of Despereaux is a delightful, classic fairytale of bravery, friendship and forgiveness and is the must have film to watch with the whole family, and with the special addition of the Despereaux videogame, the fun is never ending!
The story of the little mouse with a big heart, The Tale Of Despereaux is available to own and rent on DVD and Blu-ray from 20th April.
