Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, Zach Galifanakis
Director: Todd Phillips
Rating: 2.5/5
After the success of The Hangover it comes as no surprise the Todd Phillips and go returned with a sequel - two years after the original.
Phil (Cooper), Stu (Helms), Alan (Galifianakis) and Doug (Bartha) travel to Thailand for Stu's wedding.
Determined not to risk his own wedding by repeating the destructive antics of Doug’s bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu opts for a subdued, pre-wedding brunch - with no alcohol.
However, things don't go as planned, and a night of wild partying leaves the Wolfpack with no memory of the night before and no idea how to find the bride’s missing brother.
The main problem with The Hangover - Part II is that it’s an exact carbon copy of the very successive original - and yet now where near as good.
Sadly Phillips didn’t see the need to alter the formula one jot, except to set it in a different country, and you really do get the ‘haven’t we seen this all before?’ feeling.
As you would expect there is great chemistry between the leading cast and they do their best with what they have given - which isn’t really that much.
The on thing that the first movie had was a bucket full of laughs - hitting the child in the face with the car door is still funny - and yet all the humour seems to have been sucked out of this movie.
The Hangover -Part II is just so disappointing that there are not words for it - it’s hard to believe that the same team behind the original have been responsible for this sequel.
It was always going to be difficult to live up to the massive success of the first but to fail so miserably is such a huge disappointment.
Sure there are some great moments in it, I absolutely adored the monkey, but this movie just lacked the spontaneity and inventiveness of the original.
Sure the Hangover - Part II is a decent enough way to spend a couple of hours but it really is a disappointment and lacked serious laughs.
