The Elephant Man
The Elephant Man is the story of a brilliant young surgeon, Frederick Treves (Sir Anthony Hopkins), who finds in a Victorian circus side-show a man so hideously deformed that he is condemned to a life of degradation as a freak.
He is John Merrick (John Hurt), known to circus audiences throughout the country as 'The Elephant Man'.
Although Merrick cannot be cured, Treves battles to rescue him from the squalor of his surroundings and give him a life of dignity and comfort...
Also starring Anne Bancroft, who had originally bought the book to the attention to her husband Mel Brooks, producer on the movie.
As well as winning 3 BAFTAS including Best Film David Lynch’s cult movie was nominated for 8 Oscars including the newly added Best Make-Up category, prompted by the many hours in make-up endured by John Hurt every day to become Merrick.
The Elephant Man is released on Blu-Ray 28th September.
