Storm Boy DVD

David Gulpilil (Walkabout, The Last wave, Crocodile Dundee) and child actor Greg Rowe star in this classic and heart-warming family film from Australia, based on the acclaimed novel by Colin Thiele and now reissued on DVD to celebrate it’s 35th anniversary, courtesy of Crabtree Films.

Storm Boy (Rowe) spends his time wandering along the fierce but beautiful coastline of South Australia’s Coorong.

After a pelican mother is shot by hunters, he rescues three chicks and cares for them, naming them Mr Proud, Mr Ponder and Mr Percival.

His father (Peter Cummins) forces him to release the birds, but one, Mr Percival, returns. But before long, Storm Boy finds his freedom and his friendship with Aborigine Fingerbone Bill (Gulpilil) coming into conflict with the need to attend school and lead a conventional life - while the fate of Mr Percival hangs in the balance.

Winner of Best Film at the 1977 Australian Film Institute awards and Best Children’s Film at the Moscow Film Festival the same year, Storm Boy is seen by many as the Australia’s answer to Kes, and a film that will prove a delight for the whole family.
