Starring: Noel Clarke, Antonia Campbell-Hughes, Laura Haddock,
Director: Johannes Roberts
Rating: 2.5/5
Noel Clarke has had a busy year as he has split his time between writing movie projects and starring in them. He is on double duty with Storage 24 as he leads the cast as well as penning the screenplay.
London is in chaos. A military cargo plane has crashed leaving its highly classified contents strewn across the city.
Completely unaware London is in lockdown, Charlie (Clarke) and Shelley (Campbell-Hughes), accompanied by best friends Mark (O’Donoghue) and Nikki (Haddock), are at Storage 24 dividing up their possessions after a recent break-up.
Suddenly, the power goes off. Trapped in a dark maze of endless corridors, a mystery predator is hunting them one by one. In a place designed to keep things in, how do you get out?
I really like the idea of Storage 24 - but a group of people in a small space with an alien and you are always going to get some tense moments - but this doesn’t quite fulfil its potential.
There are some genuine thrills and scares throughout the eighty six minutes and the setting does create quite a claustrophobic atmosphere but there is not of these moments.
The love triangle element is a complete waste of time and it really does detract from the whole movie - we wanted to see human being hunted by aliens not who is sleeping with who and why.
Noel Clarke leads the cast as everyman Charlie and he is an incredibly likeable and sympathetic lead but he isn’t really tested and he doesn’t really get to show what he can really. It is a similar case for the rest of the cast as they don’t face anything that is a stretch for them.
The simple premise and the single location really does work in the film’s favour and director Johannes Roberts has created some moments of gore and scares.
But sadly it is the odd jolt rather than sustained tension of fear and the movie does fall short of what it could have been.
