Salmon Fishing In The Yemen has been one of the romantic comedies not to miss this year as Paul Torday's best selling novel has been adapted into this charming movie.
Fishing expert Fred Jones (McGregor) is approached by workaholic Harriet (Blunt) with a plan to introduce salmon into the waterways of Yemen so her client - the amiable Sheikh Muhammed - can fish there.
The seemingly crazy idea attracts the attention of the British government who hijack it with a view to creating a positive story about the Middle East.
Despite Fred’s protests he soon finds himself working on a project that seems not only frivolous but absolutely unfeasible in the arid land of Yemen.
His skepticism is matched only by the sheikh’s boundless optimism. As the bizarre mission begins, they soon find that hope can spring - even in the most unexpected places!
This is just a very sweet natured movie about dreams, faith and possibility and is one of the best movies in this genre so far this year.
There are two great central performances from Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt as they play geeky Fred and Harriet - two people thrust together to make Sheikh Muhammed's dream a reality.
And it is this central relationship that really pushes the movie forward as a warmth and a friendship develops between the pair despite the rocky start.
McGregor is great as geeky hero Fred who struggle to believe that salmon fishing in the Yemen could ever be possible.
But throughout the course of the movie he learns about hope and faith and we see him develop into a character who dares to want more from his life
It is am emotional performance from Blunt as Harriet as she tries to come to terms with the 'death' of her new boyfriend in Iraq.
But her time on the Yemen project shows her that there is more to life than just work as she begins to see Fred in a very different light.
McGregor, Blunt and Arm Waked (Sheikh Muhammed) have a great rapport together and it is this experiences of this trio that make the movie as uplifting and delightful as it is.
Sadly Kristen Scott Thomas is a little disappointing as her character doesn't live up to the promise of the trailer - which is a bit of a shame as she promised to steam the show.
Salmon Fishing In The Yemen is a delightful movie about holding on tight to a dream no matter how far-fetched it may seem - not the be missed!
