Ran
Ran is Japanese master Akira Kurosawa's reinterpretation of William Shakespeare's King Lear.
Lord Hidetora, an elderly 16th-century warlord, announces that he's about to divide his kingdom equally among his three sons but falling prey to false flattery and his own foolish pride, his domain collapses under its own weight as his remaining, treacherous sons sons battle each other over total control.
Starring Tatsuya Nakadai, Akira Terao and Jinpachi Nezu, Ran displays a magnificent visual style of vivid color paintings and compositions.
Winner of the BAFTA for Best Foreign Film as well as an Oscar for Best Costume Design, Ran is a brilliant cinematic feast ten years in the making, which proved to be the last masterwork by one of the world’s greatest filmmakers.
Ran is released on Blu-Ray 28th September.
