The legendary Takeshi Kitano returns to his roots in the genre that he built his career on as Outrage comes to DVD from 14th November, 2011 courtesy of Studiocanal.
Having danced around a variety of genres in recent years, with the likes of Fireworks, Kikujiro and Zatoichi, delivering the auteur to brand new audiences the writer-director strides confidently back into the world of the yakuza with Outrage a world in which he is truly in his element.
Sekiuchi (Kitamura Soichiro), chairman of the Sannokai, a huge organized crime syndicate controlling the entire Kanto region, issues a stern warning to his right-hand man Ikemoto (Jun Kunimura - Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Ichi the Killer), ordering him to bring the Murase family into line for their drug trafficking business.
Ikemoto immediately passes the task on to his subordinate Otomo (director Takeshi Kitano, appearing under his usual screen name, Beat Tikano - Hana-Bi, Zatoichi), concerned that Sekiuchi has lost confidence in him.
He instructs Otomo to instil some fear and respect into the head of the Murase family (Renji Ishibashi - Audition, Sukiyaki) and to repair the perceived status quo between the families. What ensues, however, is a series of increasingly violent events, with each party out to trick the other for their own benefit.
With an outstanding cast and Takeshi Kitano writing, directing and acting in his own film Outrage is a vital addition to any self-acclaimed Yakuza cineastes’ collection. Released on 14th November, let’s welcome back the master of mobsters!
