Nights In Rodanthe sees Richard Gere and Diane Lane reunite on the big screen for the first time since their 2002 movie Unfaithful.
Lane stars as Adrienne Willis, a woman with her life in chaos, who retreats to the tiny coastal town of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, to tend to a friend's inn for the weekend.
Here she hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink the conflicts surrounding her; a wayward husband who has asked to come home, and a teenaged daughter who resents her every decision.
The only guest at the inn, Flanner is not on a weekend escape but rather is there to face his own crisis of conscience.
Now, with the storm closing in, the two turn to each other for comfort and, in one magical weekend, set in motion a life-changing romance that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.
Right lets get one thing straight Nights In Rodanthe doesn't reinvent the wheel however the elements to a romantic movie are done very very well.
Diane Lane is a great actress and portrays real turmoil over the decision to give her husband a second chance after his affair. She is a woman who lives her life for other people, in particular her children, trying to be everything she thinks they need to her to be... except herself.
Gere also turns in a solid performance as Dr Flanner who faces questions of his own when a routine operation goes wrong leaving the patient dead.
Their scenes are the film's most powerful as Adrienne teaches Flanner to accept what has happened as well as teaching him that family is the most important thing while Flanner shows her that she can be a good mother and still find time to be herself.
It's really great to see these two back together on the big screen as their characters begin to fall in love, something neither of them expected at their stage in life, and the decision that they have to make because of these feelings, particular Adrienne.
But just when you think that you have got this film sussed the end sequence of events will leave you close to tears and their happiness ruined.
In all Nights In Rodanthe really is a very good film, despite what others may say, and it's great to see a romance story between two older actors which doesn't happen very often.
Nights in Rodanthe is released 9th February
