Acorn Media is delighted to announce the DVD release of the BBC smash hit drama New Tricks Series Five, which continues the investigations and exploits of the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad (UCOS), a team of retired police officers brought in to crack unsolved cases from the past.

Coinciding with the highly anticipated launch of series six, which premieres on BBC One in July 2009, New Tricks Series Five will be released on DVD on 24 August 2009 courtesy of Acorn Media.

Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman - Sexy Beast, Little Dorrit) leads UCOS, a team of three ex policemen; Jack Halford (James Bolam - The Likely Lads, Dalziel and Pascoe) Gerry Standing (Dennis Waterman - The Sweeney, Minder) and Brian Lane (Alun Armstrong - Bleak House, Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story) who for various reasons all opted for early retirement, but feel
themselves pulled back to work on the force.

In series five the team all face their demons. Ricky Hanson’s trial is finally upon them and despite the evidence, Hanson still might get away with murdering Jack’s wife.

The team also delve into the world of organ donation, discover the truth about radio DJ Johnny Deacon and probe the secrets of an MOD research unit.

Gerry meets his heroes when they look into the death of the lead singer of Bad Faith, Brian struggles with alcohol addiction and Sandra uncovers painful truths about her father.

Featuring a cast of British television legends, New Tricks secured staggering average audiences of more than eight million viewers, and was the most repeated prime time drama of the past twelve months on BBC One.

On DVD, the show has achieved fantastic results, approaching sales of almost 200,000 units, a testament to its watchability and incredible popularity.
