One of television’s most successful franchises, Law & Order created by Dick Wolf, continues with Law & Order: Criminal Intent - Season 5, available on DVD on 16 August 2010 courtesy of Universal Playback.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent focuses on the investigations of the Major Case Squad in a fictional version of the NYPD. In the style of the original Law & Order, episodes are often ‘ripped from the headlines’ or loosely based on a real crime that received media attention.
Season 5 sees the introduction of Sex and the City’s Chris Noth (The Good Wife) reprising his role as Detective Mike Logan from the original Law & Order series. Joining him is Annabella Sciorra (The Sopranos) playing alongside veterans Vincent D’Onofrio (The Break-Up, Men In Black) and Kathryn Erbe (Oz).
Unlike the other shows in the Law & Order franchise, Season 5 introduces a format alternating episodes between the two teams of detectives.
Key guest stars for Season 5 include Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost, Sister Act), Elizabeth Berkley (Saved by the Bell, Showgirls), DJ Qualls (Road Trip), John Pankow (Mad about You) and Heather Burns (Miss Congeniality, Two Weeks Notice).
This season’s episode highlights include ‘Acts of Contribution’ where an esteemed nun who helped child prostitutes get off the street is slain in her inner-city church, ‘In the Wee Small House’ the first two-partner for Criminal Intent where a teen from Iowa disappears during a New York City school trip, ‘To the Bone’ when the detectives uncover a rampage of brutal machete slayings and in the Season finale ‘The Good’ when a drug troubled teen is suspected of bludgeoning his parents to death for cash.
