Universal Pictures (UK) is proud to present a Special Edition of Home, a stunning and evocative documentary capturing the story of the planet we currently inhabit.
Available on DVD and Blu-ray, with additional ‘making of’ content available for the first time ever in the UK, Home is directed by the renowned photographer and best-selling author of Earth From Above, Yann Arthus-Bertrand.
Composed exclusively of aerial shots of the Earth, Home shows the world from a new perspective, exciting, unique and absorbing, Home shows the planet in a way that’s never been seen before.
Narrated by Hollywood star Glenn Close, the film takes viewers on a globe-spanning journey showcasing the current state of the planet and some of the most varied and beautiful landscapes on Earth from the Great Barrier Reef to the Lakagigar volcanic system of Iceland, the Dades Valley of Morocco to the frozen lake Baikal of Russia.
Not just a unique educational experience about topical environmental subjects, Home is also a homage to the planet’s natural beauty with stunning aerial imagery filmed exclusively for the documentary.
The film’s director and camera crew spent almost two years flying over fifty different countries to film the amazing scenery with the final film edited from over 488 hours of high-definition footage that shows the world in all its glory.
Exploring the impact of human life on Earth, Home shows how every action can have an effect. Arthus-Bertrand creates a foreboding picture, chronicling the environmental issues created by humans and their pursuits; including the over-use of natural energy, deforestation, water shortages, global warming and over-fishing amongst others.
The film is both thought-provoking and beautiful, using devastating facts and showcasing in vivid colour the impact humans are having on the planet’s natural resources.
However, the film ends on a high, citing facts and figures about the positive progress humans are also making in an attempt to combat and reverse their impact on earth and protect it for future generations.
Home was released simultaneously in 191 countries across the globe on World Environment Day 2009, breaking the world record for the largest film release in history. Made with the goal of getting as many viewers around the world as possible to see it, rather than creating a box-office smash - Home was the first film ever to be simultaneously released in theaters, on television, on DVD and on the Internet (YouTube) in five different continents.
It was also broadcast in 14 different languages - acting heavy weights Salma Hayek and Jacques Gamblin narrated the Spanish and French versions respectively. Home has been a huge success story already - in Germany it was the top 40th DVD of all time by the end of 2009 and in France it was the 3rd biggest selling DVD of 2009 behind Twilight and Ice Age 3.
Now for the first time ever, UK viewers can see how this ground-breaking documentary was made thanks to the exclusive ‘Making Of’ footage that is featured on both the Blu-ray and DVD. Home is available to own on Blu-ray and DVD from June 7th.
