Cast: Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, Olga KurylenkoDir: Xavier GensRating: 3/5Agent 47 is a genetically modified killer who, from a very young age, was surrounded by violence and trained to be an assassin.Agent 47 (Olyphant) is hired by a top secret group 'The Agency' to assassinate Russian President Belicoff. But Belicoff's death is covered up and is being reported in the press as just a graze wound.
Abandoned by his employer Agent 47is pursued by Interpol agent Mike Whittier (Scott) who is struggling to get past Russian Military FSB - Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation who want to handle the situation themselves in an attempt to cover up the truth.
Avoiding those he once trusted and those who want to hold him responsible he is left to protect hooker Nika, who is wanted dead by Belicoff, who sparks emotions in his he never knew he had.
Based on the popular video game Hitman has been brought to the silver screen with the hero's trademarks intact: bald head, tattooed bar code ending in the numbers 47 on the back of his head.
This movie was not made to deliver some profound moral message or to win an Academy Award its sole purpose it to entertain.
And on that level is does not disappoint. While it is an deep as a puddle and doesn't match up to the Bourne movies for example the film is fast paced, packed with fire power and is a violent thriller.
Timothy Oyphant, who's star is quickly rising, does well in the lead role as the detached, isolated and lonely hero.
His movements are performed in a mechanical, robotic manner which highlights well the lifestyle that has been drilled into him from an early age.
He interacts well with Olga Kurylenko, a relatively new actress on the international scene, as her character awakens unknown feeling sin him that show his vulnerability and childlike side.
In all this is an exciting romp of a ride that delivers exactly what it says on the tin: a hero, a villain, explosive action sequences, oceans of blood and a very high body count!
Hitman is released on DVD 31 March.
