Gambit

Ronald Neame’s action-packed comedy crime caper Gambit, starring acting legend Michael Caine (The Italian Job, Sleuth) and Hollywood star Shirley MacLaine (The Apartment, Sweet Charity) as partners in crime, finally makes its DVD debut courtesy of Second Sight.

Nominated for three Oscars on its initial release, the highly anticipated Gambit is released on DVD on 30 November 2009.

One of the classic comic-heist movies of the 1960s, Gambit stars Caine as Harry Dean, the cockney conman with the perfect plan to steal a priceless statue owned by one of the world’s wealthiest men, the debonair Shahbandar (Herbert Lom Hopscotch, The Ladykillers).

With Eurasian showgirl turned accomplice, Nicole Chang (MacLaine), posing as his wife, events don’t unfold quite as planned and nothing is quite what it seems.

Released the same year as Alfie, Caine again plays the part of a loveable rogue whose demeanour oscillates between cool and fretful, in the run up to and execution of an adrenaline-filled heist.

In signature kooky style, MacLaine’s derring-do, Nicole, is the ideal compliment for Harry’s ambition.

Gambit has long been mooted for a remake and Joel and Ethan Coen have written the screenplay.

With a plot full of twists and turns that keeps you guessing right until the end Gambit makes for a thoroughly entertaining experience.
