Nora and Mary Dominguez only know the good life: shopping, parties… and more shopping. But when Daddy’s fortune suddenly disappears, the girls are brought down to earth with a bump.

Forced to move to the other side of town, the sassy senoritas are lost without the glitz and glamour of their former lives.

But with the help of their aunt and a hunky homeboy neighbour, these pampered princesses begin to reconnect with their roots and learn that there’s more to life than designer labels.

The major problem with From Prada To Nada is the plot is just sooooooo predictable that I could have written this myself.

This feels more like a TV movie rather than something that has been put together for the big screen as the story is as dull as dishwater and pans out just like you expect it to.

This is a modern twist on Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility and you can certainly see the similarities in the story, and like the literary classic this movie is about the importance of family as much as about love.

Then there is a bunch of run of the mill characters to go along with that rather uninspiring script and they sort of drag themselves through the story without any real conviction and they never really bring these rather 2D characters to life.

There are a few chuckles throughout but there certainly aren’t enough laughs to warrant calling this a comedy movie.

But I suppose that this will appeal to a teenage audience and there are some nice messages in the film that family needs to stick together and money doesn’t always make you happy.

I’m all for modern takes on old stories but from Prada To Nada relies too much on old clichés than ever really trying something new.

Sadly you know a movie isn’t that great when you find yourself fast-forwarding through it and from Prada To Nada is really just lacking a great script, charismatic actors and more laughs.

From Prada to Nada is out on DVD now
