Eagle Eye

Eagle Eye

Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis
Dir: D.J. Caruso
Rating: 4/5

It seems that no matter what Shia LaBeouf does his movies top the U.S box office, and Eagle Eye was no different, as the young star continues to ride on a wave of success.

Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) is a slacker who works at Copy Cabana, until he returns home after receiving bad news about his brother to find his apartment filled with incriminating packages, and receives a phone call from a mysterious woman advising him to vacate the premises immediately.

Single mother Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) also finds herself at the mercy of the mystery caller after seeing her young son off on an overnight school trip.

Soon, these two strangers find themselves caught in a tangled web, taking directions from the female caller who makes it very clear that if they disobey her, there will be consequences for them and their families.

Alright, alright so the plot is totally ridiculous and unbelievable, but is it any more unbelievable that a bunch of alien robots landing on earth? I think not.

If you can just accept Eagle Eye as a piece of harmless entertainment, it's not designed to win any Oscars, that it a fast paced, rip roaring and exciting ride.

LaBeouf puts in another solid performance, he really is showing off his ability to lead a film, as his character Jerry struggles with living in the shadow of his twin brother. As well as a leading man he cements his reputation as an up and coming action hero with Transformers and Indiana Jones already under his belt.

Monaghan also puts in a solid performance as Rachel Holloman who desperately tries to save her son and while neither of them are really stretched there is a great rapport and chemistry between the two leading characters.

The real problem with Eagle Eye is that it takes the idea of 'big brother is watching you' just a step too far just tipping the movie from intelligent political thriller to nonsensical action film.

However good performances from a talented cast and some great action sequences, the car chases really are nail biting stuff, does save the film from it's rather bizarre plot.

As action movies got Eagle Eye is top draw and deserves more credit than it was given so sit back and accept the story and just enjoy a really exciting movie.

Eagle Eye is released 16th March
