Dirty Oil DVD

Dirty Oil DVD

The Co-operative and Dogwoof bring to DVD the much anticipated documentary Dirty Oil, from Academy Award®-nominee Director Leslie Iwerks.

Dirty Oil illustrates the devastating impact that Albertan tar sands developments are having on the environment and local First Nation communities.

Filmmaker Leslie Iwerks (The Pixar Story, The Hand Behind The Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story) in this beautifully photographed and moving documentary, goes deep behind-the-scenes into the strip-mined world of Northern Alberta, Canada.  Here, vast and toxic tar sands provide the US with the majority of its oil.

Told through the eyes of scientists, 'big oil' officials, politicians, doctors, environmentalists and First Nation communities directly affected by 'the largest industrial project on the planet today', the filmmakers journey to uncover the emotional and irreversible toll this 'black gold rush' is taking on our planet.

The film is narrated by Canadian actress and environmentalist Neve Campbell (Scream, Wild Things).

With appearances in the film by world renowned authors, scientists, politicians and environmentalists, including Lester Brown (author of 'Plan B'), Andrew Nikiforuk (author of 'Tar Sands') and Mel Knight (Alberta Minister of Energy), this is the heart wrenching story of industry and government putting money before the health and security of people and the environment.

Dirty Oil is available to rent and buy from 13th September 2010.
