Beyond The Clouds DVD

Near the end of his professional career, one of the most mesmeric and sublime directors in the history of cinema, Michelangelo Antonioni (L’Avventura, The Passenger), produced one his finest works, Beyond The Clouds.

The first feature length film to come out of the master’s studio almost a decade after the stroke that derailed his career, it is widely regarded to be a film of incredible beauty, gorgeous camera shots and moving performances, featuring a cast of some of the most beautiful to have ever worked in film.

The erotic and enigmatic Beyond The Clouds will be released for the first time ever on DVD on 14 September 2009 courtesy of Second Sight Films.

Adapted from Antonioni’s own short stories, four tales of love and desire are linked by a director (John Malkovich - Being John Malkovich, Burn After Reading) in search of his next picture.

In exploring the subject matter he begins to learn things about himself, his life and the women that serve as a lynchpin for so much of it.

The cast is comprised of some of the most beautiful and talented actresses working today, including Sophie Marceau (The World Is Not Enough, Braveheart), Fanny Ardant (The Woman Next Door, Il Divo) and Irene Jacob (The Double Life Of Veronique, Three Colours: Red).

Despite all of them having worked with some of the most iconic and prolific directors in the world, they all leapt at the chance to work with the legendary Antonioni.

Antonioni is one of the most influential European directors to have ever lived. The impact he had on subsequent art films is undeniable, and several of the most legendary names in cinema history cite him as an influence and a talent to be revered.

Akira Kurosawa considered him to be one of the most interesting filmmakers alive, Stanley Kubrick held up La Notte as one of his favourite films, and Andrei Tarkovsky named him as one of his
all time favourite filmmakers.
