All In Good Time DVD

Starring: Reece Ritchie, Amara Karan, Meera Syal, Harish Patel

Director: Nigel Cole

Rating: 3/5

Nigel Cole has a way of delivering witty and heartwarming movies that are based in real life - and All In Good Time sees him do it all over again.

The movie is based on the play by Bill Naughton and Ayub Khan-Din, who penned East Is East, was on hand to write the screenplay.

Centred around a close knit, larger than life British Asian family living in present day Bolton, All In Good Time follows Atul Dutt and his young bride Vina for whom the first taste of married life is proving far from straightforward.

When their hard saved for honeymoon is cancelled the day after the wedding, the newlyweds have no choice but to return to the Dutt household and set up home there.

As prying family members and gossipy neighbours conspire to keep the couple from consummating their marriage, Atul and Vina start to panic. But if they can just keep their situation private, and if they can just get a bit of time alone, all could be saved for this pair.

So with meddling parents, nosey neighbours and a community that thrives on gossip, can their marriage last?

All In Good Time is perhaps not quite the feel good, laugh out loud romp that you were expecting as he once again looks at the dynamics of family life.

Don't get me wrong this is a touching and humorous but the pacing is all over the place and the movie does lose momentum in the middle.

Reece Ritchie and Amara Karan make a charming pair and you can't help but will them to succeed but it really is Meera Syal and Harish Patel who steal the show.

The pair starred together in these very roles in the stage version of the story and you can really tell as there is a fantastic chemistry between the pair.

Patel steals every scene he is in as the larger than life father who wants to be life and soul of the party.

All In Good Time is a universal story of family dynamics and family struggles and relationships.

This is a charming movie from start to finish and Cole has made the story intimate and engaging but it is just lacking that little bit of something.
