Adapted from a short story by Irish author George Moore, the film has been a personal project for Close, 30 years in the making, after the actress originally played the role in the 1982 Off Broadway adaptation.
Directed by Rodrigo Garcia (In Treatment, Nine Lives) and with a screenplay adapted by Close and Man Booker prize winning novelist John Banville, Albert Nobbs is an endearing tale of one woman’s unconventional search to find her place in a life built upon a secret of her own making.
