Hard-man Ray Winstone is at his best in a brutal and sharply written Brit-flick from the writers of Sexy Beast, as the powerful and explosive drama of retribution 44 Inch Chest is released to buy and rent on Blu-ray and DVD by Momentum Pictures on 10 May 2010.
Winstone (The Departed, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) is accompanied by an outstanding legendary line up including Ian McShane (Deadwood, Sexy Beast), John Hurt (Alien, Outlander), Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton, Valkyrie), Stephen Dillane (Spy Game, King Arthur), and Joanne Whalley (Scandal, Shattered).
Set against a seedy East End gangster backdrop, Colin Diamond (Winstone) is in agony, shattered by the bombshell of his wife’s (Whalley) infidelity with a young French waiter.
His motley crew of friends, foul mouthed Old Man Peanut (Hurt), intelligent, wealthy and gay Meredith (McShane), Archie (Wilkinson) who lives at home with mum, and Mal (Dillane), kidnap Loverboy (Melvil Poupaud) and stash him in a wardrobe in a dilapidated old house. They assemble a kangaroo court so that Colin can restore his manhood with revenge.
A very bumpy night ensues for Loverboy whose life is at stake as Colin wrestles with heartbreak, anger, madness, love and gargantuan self-pity as his friends unleash a tirade of accusations to urge him on to bloody violence.
Potent, provocative and outrageously profane, this visceral exploration of the masculine ego at breaking point is the feature film debut of renowned photographer and commercials director Malcolm Venville and is penned by Sexy Beast writers Louis Mellis and David Scinto in their trademark witty style and produced by Richard Brown and Steve Golin (Babel, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
44 Inch Chest is an essential addition to the collection of fans of Winstone’s work in Nil by Mouth, Love Honour & Obey and Sexy Beast and contains two excellent featurettes, The story behind 44 Inch Chest (with director and key cast) and Up Close and Personal (character one on ones).
