Tiff Stevenson’s new stand up show ‘Bombshell’ will be at the Gilded Balloon Sportsman’s for the month of August so we caught up with her to find out what we can expect.
Please tell us about your brand of comedy.
Think of something good. Multiply that by 15. Divide that by your age. Subtract the first thing you thought of, then stop wasting time and buy a ticket.
What can audiences expect from your new show?
Female First readers can expect a woman (just like them), standing on stage, recalling all the relentless bullshit the world throws at women (just like them), ripping it to shreds till there's nothing left but laughter. Note: the woman on may be full of fight, rage, love, hope, and Prosecco (just like them).
Which comedians have been your biggest influence since you decided this was your path?
There's too many brilliant smart funny women to mention them all. But it's not just about comedy, it's about the journey you go through as a woman. I'm inspired by all women that had to kick doors open. Like Joan Rivers kicked them off their f**king hinges. Im inspired by my peers too
What random things make you laugh in everyday life?
My cat. He's an absolute prick.
Please tell us about your best and worst moment on stage so far?
All of them
Do you still get nervous when you do a gig?
Sometimes, there is no rhyme or reason
Why is Edinburgh Fringe Festival such a great platform for comedians?
First of all you get an hour on stage. That's important. The best stuff takes time to work through. The rest is awards and thinking you deserve stuff that isn't real
Who are you looking forward to seeing at the Fringe?
Stuart Black at The Tron which will be the cult must see of the fringe. Sara Pascoe at The Pleasance. Maddy Anholt for character comedy at Underbelly. Barry Crimmins at The Stand, I did Montreal with him last year he is brilliant. Anne Edmonds she has funny bones. Desiree Birch I really like watching. Jayde Adams is funny and has some lungs. Some stalwarts like Carl Donnelly & Glenn Wool who always do great shows
What is your advice to aspiring comedians?
Depends who's asking. If it's a young, posh, white dude, who went to Oxbridge i'd say: Ah don't worry, you'll be fine. For everyone else I'd say: you better get ready to fight for everything.
What is the oddest heckle you've ever received?
Oh God... All hecklers are morons and who care's what they have to say. However, I did an open-air midnight gig in a woodland and I was heckled by an owl. Right before a punch line. That is the one and only time I didn't mind being heckled.
What is next for you?
I'm in a new TV show called Game Face created by the incredible Roisin Conaty, and the next series People Just Do Nothing coming out later in the year. Sydney in Autumn
