Venturing out to Blackpool on Easter Monday (April 6, 2015), my friend and I didn't know just what to expect when we entered The Blackpool Tower Dungeon, with a promise of Poisonous Pasts and Death By Chocolate in store, especially for Easter.

Unfortunately what I cannot tell you about is the Easter promotion and change to the dungeon itself for the Easter period, as it just didn't happen. Perhaps this was due to how busy the dungeons were, with tours taking place every ten minutes so as to get as many people through the doors as possible, but it was a slight disappointment.

The website reads: "Come along and play sweet roulette and chance your luck against the wicked poisoner Elizabeth Berry! Could you be tempted by lethal liquorice or will it be death by chocolate? Discover the evil truth behind the sickly syrup smile of the flirty, calculating murderous poisoner as you take a trip to the depths of the Dungeon and delve through 1,000 years of Lancashire's most murky past."

We never met Elizabeth Berry or her poison, didn't eat any liquorice, sweets or chocolate and instead were taken on a tour that explored the past of the plague, the Vikings and more, ending in a thrilling 'Death Drop' ride that had the entire group screaming.

Despite looking forward to some troublesome treats, the experience was a good one with scares around each and every corner. Participation was essential which really added a great element to the show, and the actors were constantly in character, making us laugh, scream and jump in terror.

Those that we did come face to face with included Judge Blackheart, who called my friend to the stand, accusing her of being a witch and demanding we all boo and hiss her; the Plague Doctor who asked one member of our group to allow her rip out his insides; and Captain Johnson, who tickled our necks and ears with his blade in the darkness, before giving us a prod in the back to see if we were strong enough to join his crew.

The experience isn't just a walkthrough one, but a fully immersive 60 minutes that will see you get sprayed, picked on and spooked. Those looking for something exciting to do when visiting the area should certainly consider this attraction highly. Though I can't give a rating for the Easter side of the promotion, I can promise that the usual experience is a five out of five.

Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.thedungeons.com/blackpool/en/ with special offers allowing you to visit other attractions as well as this one on your day trip for a reduced price.
