Please tell us about your brand of comedy- what can audiences expect?
Audiences can expect me to know what I'm doing. I almost do. It takes a lot of acting skill to appear out of your depth. By the end of Fringe I'll be using all of them.
Which comedians have been your biggest influence since you decided this was your path?
I'm not sure that this is a path. It looks dark and scary and lonely and creepy but let's totally go down it!
What random things make you laugh in everyday life?
Me. If I didn't laugh at my life I'd cry!
I do random stuff all the time. Just now auto correct tried to get me to say "I do transom thongs ask the tone"
I don't always spot that in texts and hit send.
Please tell us about your best and worst moment on stage so far.
Best would be at a gig a couple of years ago… I wasn't an act I was on the stage holding a bucket for a raffle. Then the fog was put on hold while my friends presented me with birthday cake! There should be more cake on stage.
Worst. That would a time I was playing Thaisa in a production of Pericles. There was a dance sequence very close to the edge of the orchestra pit. One night it was far far closer, terrifyingly so. It would have been a very different show had Pericles killed his future wife before the wedding. He thinks she's dead for a while in the show but there was no need to make me think I might have been too.
Do you still get nervous when you do a gig?
Yes! remind me why I'm doing this again!?
Why is Edinburgh Fringe Festival such a great platform for comedians?
Because someone said it was and now it's true.
Who are you looking forward to seeing as an audience member?
I'm looking forward to seeing all my audience members.
Serious answer, Tom Neenan and his story telling perfection, John Robertson and his seemingly endless energy. Sarah Kendall, Ria Lina, Maff Brown... more than I can hope to fit into the month.
What is your advice to aspiring comedians?
Ha! Why on earth are you asking me aspiring comedian? Go work it out for yourself, it's the only way you'll believe it.
What is the oddest heckle you've ever received?
Let's not tempt fate.
What is next for you?
Cake
Amée Smith: Relax, It's Not About You
