I had the pleasure of attending one of Jimmy Carr's shows last year in September in Parr Hall Warrington. Having seen him on TV in a slightly more toned back version of himself I was not prepared for the evening at all. I was impressed by his TV presence, however, in my opinion he is at home on the stage alone.

Jimmy Carr: Gagging Order

Jimmy Carr: Gagging Order

Jimmy was on for two and a half hours of relentless jokes, stories, one liners and slide shows and never faltered once. Some 'cleverer' guests in the audience did try and meet their match, however failed miserably as he made fools out of each one of them. His performance boasts variety, which is mostly why I was extremely impressed with the show. Other comedians are all about the movements e.g. Lee Evans and Michael McIntyre, however, remaining in an upright and still position for most of the night; it did require the other elements to keep the audience captivated.

As our parting joke, he told us that we would not remember anything else from the night but that- and he was right, the joke was so bad that even when I think back very hard I am unable to recall a large proportion of the night's offerings due to that. Unfortunately, the joke is far too rude to put on the site, however for those of you going this year, I do sincerely hope he ends on that high note for you too. 'how do you make a gay guy sleep with a woman?'- well you can only imagine!

Jimmy Carr's initial appeal is his smart attire that usually supersedes intelligence and grace. He embodies both of these however more than taints it with the unexpected foul mouthed accompaniment. It's this juxtaposition that, I think, makes him as popular as he is today. Breaking the stereotype.

Although I received the ticket as a gift, I would not squabble at the £25.00 ticket price to see him again. He was worth every penny, for the continuous laughs, the inventive set and the length of time he entertained us for.

Jimmy has sold over a million copies of his dvds. He once said in an interview that when people purchase all of his DVDs they will go in sequence on your shelf; Live, Stand Up, Comedian, In Concert, Telling Jokes, Making People Laugh and Being Funny, however I am at a loss to know how Gagging Order Fits in with this sequence when it finally reaches dvd?!

He takes us where we dare not go but when we do it's deliciously entertaining. If you have not had the experience yet, I would strongly advise you to get your tickets now! (Just leave your conscience, your morals and your Gran outside!)
