The RYA Powerboat Racing Department is proud to announce that, in conjunction with Castlemaine Sports Management, they will be hosting the 4th round of the 2012 UIM World F2 Powerboat Championship, at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, 16 - 17 September.
Entertaining, thrilling and exciting are just some of the words you could use to describe the UIM World class sport of F2 Powerboat Racing. With speeds potentially reaching in excess of 200km/h this action packed form of racing is fast becoming one of the most high profile, professional forms of motorsport racing.
One of the reasons for this classes’ success is the fact that it is a ‘stock engine class’, and any tuning or modification to the original engine is strictly forbidden. This keeps the financial running costs to a minimum for teams and ensures that success will come to the most talented and knowledgeable drivers.
Some 24 drivers representing an international fleet are expected to attend and compete at the event in Nottingham, with Britain fielding a strong fleet of home grown talent to compete on home waters.
2012 will be the first time in over a decade that a round of the F2 World Championship has been held in Britain despite four of the recent World Championship titles being secured by British racers and a strong and ever increasing fleet in the RYA British Championship.
RYA Powerboat Racing Manager John Puddifoot is delighted with the news and commented: "2012 is going to be a fantastic year for all sports in Britain.
"With London hosting the Olympics in the Queen’s Jubilee year all eyes will be on Britain and our sporting achievements. Taking Powerboat Racing back to Nottingham at this level will really showcase our sport and achievements to a global audience."
He continued: "F2 Powerboat Racing is so exhilarating to watch the action is fast, furious, spectators won’t be disappointed and what better place to watch it than the fantastic facilities at the National Water Sports Centre, managed by Nottinghamshire County Council, where you’ll be able to get up close and personal with all the action.
"It’s great to have the support of Castlemaine Sports Management - they have shown a passion for the sport like our officials and competitors and we hope the partnership means we can put on a truly spectacular event."
Castlemaine Sports Management Director, Jason Brewer said: "We are truly honoured to be part of what promises to be such a huge event on the UK powerboat Racing Calendar.
"We look forward to the challenges ahead and are very pleased that our organisation will be assisted by the UK Circuit Clubs, who always work very hard at every race that they host and will be a key factor in bringing this race to reality.
"We would also like to thank the RYA, The National Watersports Centre, Nottinghamshire County Council and our partners for helping us to secure this event and look forward to a fantastic show in Nottingham".
