The Vampire Diaries Season 2 came to an intense end earlier this year with an amazing cliff hanger, leaving us all with tons of questions about how season 3 will pick up and how the storylines will progress.
FemaleFirst had the chance to speak with Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert), Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennet) and Candice Accola (Caroline Forbes) and probed them over the characters they play, what they would like to see happen in season 3 and which cast members would win in the ring!
FemaleFirst: You all seem to enjoy playing your characters, but if you could play anyone else on the show who would it be?
Kat: I can’t really imagine playing another character, I feel like it’s a perfect character for what I like and what I’m about so for me I’d just like to play bonnie.
Candice:I would play Damon.
FF: Why?
C: Because he has good eyebrows (laughs) No, he just has the best wicked one-liners and he’s so good at being bad.
FF: Okay so Steven, Jeremy seems to be quite unlucky, like he’s had things happen to him that are quite unlucky in the show, are you as unlucky as your character?
Steven: I mean we all have our days, you know, I think Jeremy’s gone through more loss than most people should or ever have to go through.
He has lost his parents and kind of stayed numb with drugs and alcohol and then lost his two loves, which is what I like to call the kiss of death, and I think in the second season he wants to keep everyone he loves alive and would do anything to do so, and ends up getting killed himself.
He opens deaths door and he can communicate with the dead and wherever that goes next season hopefully it frees him up a little bit and allows him to be a little more open and less limited.
FF: Kat you were very sceptical in the first series about witches and then you found out that you were one and you’ve saved the day quite a few times in the second series. How does it feel to have been the hero?
K: It feels great, I love being useful. I think that all the decisions Bonnie made came from a great place of conviction and compassion and I really love that, that she did it for herself as much as she did it for other people and I’m really thrilled with the outcome of all the scenario’s.
FF: Candice, your character Caroline was quite childish in the first series, she hadn’t really grown up but since becoming a vampire she’s become a lot more fierce a character. Which Caroline did you prefer playing, did you prefer playing her in the first series or the second series?
C: Oh I definitely enjoyed playing her in the second season but I think it’s very normal, with all these characters being in high school, to have that transition, whether it’s you know, being very childish to starting to take accountability for your actions, whether you become a vampire or not, I think it’s just a very normal transition, so what I appreciate about the writers is that even though it’s a very supernatural based show there’s still much humanity that lies in the writing.
FF: Who gets the giggles the most on set?
C: Steven McQueen!
FF: Why? Who starts it off, and what does it take?
S: Pretty much anything, we’re all a goofy group.
C: Mines Michael Trevino, he’s like my brother and there comes the point where we can really not look at each other in the eye.
It’s called the punch drunk hour where you’ve being in the same enclosed space for hours at a time and for some reason ‘cave’ becomes funny for no reason.
FF: Steven, are there any particular storylines you would like to be cast in for season 3?
S: You know, I think it will be interesting to see where this communicating with the dead thing goes. I don’t know you know, I think the writers do a good job of providing the material for us and I look forward to seeing where everything goes.
FF: Candice in the last season, Caroline and Tyler became quite close; can you tell us anything that is going to happen in season 3? Will she choose Matt or Tyler?
C: Honestly this is the first time where I genuinely don’t know what’s going to come up in season 3. I think the extent of anyone’s knowledge at the moment is what the writers have said to the press which is that it’s going to be the year of the originals so I think we’re all in for a history lesson.
When it comes to actual relationships there has been no hint or nudge or decisions made by the writers of where they see any of Caroline, Tyler or Matt’s relationships going.
FF: And who would you chose from Zach (Matt) and Michael (Tyler) in real life?
C: They’re like family, you can’t do that! I adore them both and I have a blast working with both of them, so either way I’m a happy camper.
FF: Okay, Damon and Stefan are constantly fighting for Elena’s affections in the show, but who would you all put money on to win a fight between Ian (Damon) and Paul (Stefan)?
All: Paul
FF:(laughs) Why do you say Paul?
C: Paul’s from Jersey.
K: Yeah, Paul’s from Jersey.
FF: Are they notoriously good fighters in Jersey?
K:Paul’s just a good fighter.
S:No, I wouldn’t even say that. I mean, between the two, I would probably bet on Paul, but I’d get in the ring with both of them.
FF:Really? And win?
S:Yeah (laughs)
FF: Candice are you anything like your character in the Vampire Diaries series because she’s quite girly and organised, she has her head screwed on are you anything like that?
S: It’s spot on.
C:(laughs) Everyone else seems to think there’s a lot more similarities everyone’s like ‘yeah there are’. There are a lot of similarities I guess, it’s terrifying. It’s the weirdest kind of therapy, it’s really odd.
FF: It must make it easier to play your character?
C:But it’s also terrifying cause then you’re like ‘wait is that really me?’ it’s good and bad.
FF: Kat, you’re next movie is Honey 2, was it good for you to combine acting and dancing into one film?
K: Yeah it was a lot harder than I thought it was, I was like ‘oh I’ve been a dancer for so long this will be a breeze’ and I was dying , it was so hard.
It was so difficult but I’m really proud of the film and how it turned out, I think it’s way better than the original, and I’m really thrilled.
FF: Do you think it’s better because it has yourself in it?
K: (laughs) No, no I think it’s grimier and I think the advantages are the choreography is different and the storyline is different. I like grimier things like that and I think the stakes are higher in this film than the original.
FF: Steven, what’s next for you, have you got anything planned?
S: No just doing a couple of classes right now, but no nothing, just waiting for that next project I’m passionate about.
FF: And Kat, after Honey 2 what will you be doing?
K: Just wrapping up the album and doing a bunch of shows in LA, hopefully filming a couple of things and doing some video’s then heading back to shoot season 3 of Vampire Diaries.
FF: Candice, how about you, what are your plans?
C:Well I obviously will be back for season 3 of The Vampire Diaries, but until then I’m taking my hiatus to be a hippy hobo and I’m going to travel Europe for a month.
The script for season 3 of The Vampire Diaries has just finished its write-up and the show should appear on our screens at the end of this year, and we at FemaleFirst can’t wait to get our teeth into it!
Vampire Diaries: Season 2 is out on DVD now.
