Shaun commented that he thought Lembit would have been a very honest MP. Lembit said “I tried to be. I’m not even an MP anymore. I tried to do the best I could. They wanted me to pay back thousands of pounds and I said that wasn’t reasonable and I appealed about it saying even with the new rules that’s not reasonable and what they wanted me to pay back eventually became I think it was 90 pounds out of seven years worth of expenses.”
But Linford was on a roll and told Lembit that he thought he should have gone to jail. “Tell me about the details of my case that you thought were criminal. Tell me about it. Linford I need to understand which part of my situation were criminal” demanded Lembit.
But Linford retorted ”You over claimed 90 pounds. Stealing, because if I did that ..” Lembit continued “You know why that got paid back. Because I volunteered to. I said on the basis of giving the benefit of the doubt. It was approved at the time. The money I had paid back had been approved and I would say to Linford when they’re paying back money they were entitled to claim at the time.”
But Linford was determined and continued “You should have had to do some sort of community service. There should have been some more thing because it was wrong. Nowadays there is a rule that if you’re with a group of people and they do something wrong you are an accomplice. You go to jail for whatever they do. You get the same punishment.”
Lembit retorted “It’s like me saying all sportsmen take drugs because you should go to prison. And Linford replied “All sports people that take drugs should be banned for life. That’s my thing and I will stick to that and sometimes the innocent gets caught up in it but that’s life.”
“Should (David) Cameron go to prison?” asked Lembit. “Did he have to pay back something? Well yes he should” declared Linford, also stating that he thought the same should happen to Nick Clegg. “It was wrong to eat the apple. He ate it and we’re all suffering for it.”
