Ice T and Coco

Ice T and Coco

The second season of Ice Loves Coco has just kicked off on E! Entertainment and we once again get a sneak peak at the lives of Ice T and Coco.

I caught up with the pair to talk about the new season, having a camera in your face 24/7 and what lies ahead.

- The second season of Ice Loves Coco is about to air so what can we expect from the show this time around?

Ice - It’s still about us and our every day lives.  You know we’re just hanging out, doing our thing and just having fun.  It’s still funny.  I think our show will always be funny.

Coco - Yeah, we’re always laughing, we’re like two little comedians together.  But this season I have a health scare, but I can’t tell you what, and we work apart from each other which is difficult for us because we like to stay together, and you see us celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.  And there’s also a romance for Spartacus as I’m trying to find him a wife.

- I know this is a second season but what is it like having cameras follow you around 24/7?

Ice - Actually the shooting of the show itself changes the pace and speed of your life.  Simply because if they’re going to shoot you going into a restaurant they have to leap frog in front of you to get to that restaurant, get the permits and all that stuff.

So normally you would just get out of your car and get into that restaurant, but now they’re like 'if you want to go out you need to let us know because we want to be there and we want to get that'.

Then when you get there and you’re ready to go straight in to the restaurant, the TV crew are like 'hold up we need to put mics on you' and stuff, and then check the sound and stuff.

And then when you’re in the restaurant and there’s big lights and stuff round you so everyone’s looking at you going what the fuck is going on?  So it’s kind of a warped reality.

But you know the thing about it is, fortunately for Coco and I, we have a lot of stuff happening, so that’s why it’s always good content because our life really is exciting.  I guess if you didn’t have an exciting life they would have to create shit and that’s when we get conned.

- How comfortable are you letting a camera crew into your lives and your home? What made you want to make the documentary in the first place?

Ice - I didn’t expect the response. I was very nervous doing a show about our life because it’s a scary thing.  If you do a show about your life and no one likes it, it sucks right?

So I was kind of nervous and it’s a great feeling when people really like what you’re doing.  We’re really happy with the response but I’m not going to say that we were positive that people were going to like it that much.

Coco - I kind of knew people were going to like it because I know the characters in my life, and I know just being around us is just hilarious. Ice and I live a really funny life just between the two of us.

If you see us behind closed doors, like you do in the show, you see us just make each other laugh.  I was also getting sick of hearing the bad negative stuff about me.  I wanted them to see the other side.

My family side, my ‘wifey’ side and I had to talk him into it. And he said 'yeah you’re right', so it was more for me that he did it.

- This seasons sees you spending time apart due to your work. How difficult has that been for the pair of you?

Ice - We’re very rarely apart.  We always stay try to stay close you know?  We have days where I’m working and Coco’s working, but then at night we’ll end up together.

You know we’ll be going in different directions but as far as her travelling away or me travelling away, no this was like the second time it’s happened.  And I don’t know, we just like being around each other.

We schedule our lives so we can be in each others areas so we don’t do business that separates us.

Coco - On the Law and Order set, in Ice’s dressing room, is where I made an office for myself.  So if I didn’t do that, he works 14 hour days, therefore I wouldn’t see him if I didn’t make it a point to make an office on the set with him.

Why be married to someone you never see 14 hours a day Monday through Friday? That’s crazy.  So I definitely miss him and want to see him.

So it’s a good thing they allow Spartacus and I to go on the set and spend all that time with him.  But at the same time I can get my work done too.

- You have married over a decade, which you don’t often see with celebrity marriages, so what makes you relationship so enduring?

Ice - I think you need to start off with somebody you really love.  It helps if you really get along.  Coco and I are with each other mostly every day, all day, and we truly enjoy each others company.  That’s really the key.

Coco - It’s communication.  It’s really communication.  I have to say that over and over again.  It sounds cheesy to say but if you talk to your mate over and over you won’t have any problems.

- Coco this new series of the show sees you battle with ill health, genetically high blood pressure, so how are you now? And what changes have you made to your diet and lifestyle to help tackle this problem?

Coco - Well you know, what the doctor really wanted me to do was eat more white fish and fresh fruit, as that naturally lowers the blood pressure.  But knowing me, and you know Coco, I take it to the extreme.

So if she tells me to eat white fish, I have to go and get a nutritionist, and I have to really figure this out. So I take it to the extreme more than I have to.  I am actually eating healthier.

The nutritionist opened my eyes to a different world where you can actually eat better and the food does taste good.  You know you can eat more salads, more broccoli, more greenery.

Anything that’s green is good for you.  But do you know what I found out, which is key to anyone that has high blood pressure, white tea works wonders.

I’ve been drinking a lot of that and I’m doing great now. I could rule the world.  I’ve got my blood pressure back again.

- Do you intend to make a third series of the show? And if so has filming begun and how is it going?

Ice - We’ve just wrapped season two and they have already started to ask us about season three, but we need a break I think.  It’s intense having cameras following you all day, every day for three months.

Coco - Everyone is always asking me if we’re going to have a baby in the next season but that’s not going to happen.  I definitely want a baby but I have so many projects going on and I have to finish those first before I move onto the next chapter in my life.

Ice - It will be a few years yet, so not next season no.

- Away from the series Ice you are still working on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit so how much are you still enjoying your time on the show?

Ice - For sure.  I love my job at Law and Order.  I came to do it for four episodes and now I’ve been here thirteen years.  We’re like a family together.  It’s a great crew, a great cast, and Coco works on her projects in my dressing room so I get to see her when I’m not shooting.

And you  know, she’s part of the family too.  It’s a great show and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to work with the people I am and having the job I have.

- And are we going to be seeing you on the big screen or with a new music release anytime this year?

Ice - I’ve just finished directing a movie.  I still do my rap concerts and I still do my rock concerts, I’ve got the greatest life.

- Coco you have also appeared on Law and Order so how was your time on the set and on the show?

Coco - On this season of Ice Loves Coco you’re going to see me do my third appearance on Law and Order.

I love it, it’s so much fun.  And this time there’s a little twist so you have to watch out for that.  It’s not a big part but it’s a little something.

Ice - It’s something sexy

- Finally what is coming up for the pair of you?

Ice - I think we’d like to do a little travelling this year if we can. We’d like to go to Japan.  And Coco wants to go to Europe to where her grandparents are from at some point.

Ice Loves Coco Season 2 premieres on  Sunday 1st April at 10.30pm on E! Entertainment Television (Sky 151/Virgin 156)
