William Shatner and Carol Channing are among the stars who have paid tribute to Hollywood actor Mickey Rooney who died yesterday (06.04.14).
Rooney, whose career spanned over nine decades, passed away aged 93 due to natural causes following a lengthy period of ill health, according to TMZ.
Mickey's former co-star Carol said in a statement: "I loved working with Mickey on 'Sugar Babies'. He was very professional, his stories were priceless and I love them all ... each and every one. We laughed all the time (sic)."
Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin took to Twitter after the news broke and wrote: "A lovely man, talented actor & friend, Mickey Rooney has passed at 93. He is with his dear friend Judy Garland putting on shows in heaven (sic)."
Star Trek actor William remembered him by tweeting: "My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mickey Rooney. One of the greats!"
Anna Marie 'Patty' Duke also wrote: "Rip Mickey Rooney. Having spent time in Mickey presence, I am grateful. He led a long and wild ride, bring joy to millions. He will b missed (sic)."
Mickey was still working when he died and had been filming a new movie with former child star Margaret O'Brien.
She said: "Mickey was the only one at the studio that was ever allowed to call me Maggie. He was undoubtedly the most talented actor that ever lived. There was nothing he couldn't do.
"Singing, dancing, performing ... all with great expertise. Mickey made it look so easy. I was currently doing a film with him, 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' - I simply can't believe it. He seemed fine through the filming and was as great as ever."
