When it was announced that Denise Van Outen and Eddie Boxshall had called time on their seven-year relationship, fans of the celebrity were shocked. They wanted to know exactly what had changed for the couple, who were set to marry, and why they had decided to part ways.

Now we know that Van Outen had decided to bring her relationship to a close when she discovered Boxshall had been cheating via social media, exchanging messages with another woman.

Van Outen made the discovery when she borrowed her ex's iPad, finding lude messages and even a photograph of another woman's breasts, which she says Boxshall had made his screensaver.

Searching for the other woman's Instagram account via her own profile, Van Outen went on to realise that Boxshall had been on her account to block the woman, in case she decided to tell the actress about the online relationship that had been forged.

As reported in The Mirror, Van Outen explained: "I quickly found the woman's profile by her screen name, only to discover I'd previously blocked her on my Instagram account - which struck me as odd.

"This was a woman who I didn't know, who'd clearly had an online connection with my boyfriend."

After unblocking her, she quickly got a message from the woman which simply read, "Oh, you've unblocked me then."

Van Outen continued: "She suggested that Eddie had probably gone into my phone and blocked her so she couldn't message me".

"Her name was Tracy and she had apparently spoken to Eddie over FaceTime and text for a long period - often from our home and sometimes from my flat in Hampstead, which she seemed to think was his."

Confronting her fiancé at the time, Boxshall made excuses and said he "didn't know" why he had been sent pictures.

"But when the story came out, I received messages from people saying they'd seen them together.

"As for the second woman, 'a friend', was the best he could do. It transpired she was an ex from 2013.

"He swore he'd met up with her as she'd just been to her father's funeral. I later discovered he had died a year and a half earlier. If there was nothing in it, why all the secrecy?

"And having those shots as his screensaver was the biggest red flag of all!"

Boxshall seemed to comment on the allegations, strangely enough via Instagram, where he posted a picture of fictional TV detective Inspector Clouseau and wrote the hashtags "#2sides #holdinghandsup #butdefendingmyself #keepprivatelifeprivate #nolongerbeingcontrolled".

That post has since been removed, but he remains active on the social media platform.

Denise Van Outen's new autobiography, A Bit Of Me: From Basildon to Broadway, and back, is out now.
