Whoopi Goldberg is now insisting it wasn't her who farted on The View.
The star appeared to let rip on the chat show this Wednesday, December 10 during a debate in which Ashanti was discussing the pros and cons of getting a flu jab, but now says the audible noise that disrupted the panel was an unusual sound effect that she quickly made a joke about.
Clearing the air on the show yesterday, Whoopi explained: "There was a sound effect that we had never heard before. I'm thinking, 'Damn, that's weird, what can I do?' Oh, I know! I'm gonna pretend I let a little something go. As a joke.
""Now, these folks are emailing people, running up on people saying, 'How do you feel about the fart that Whoopi did on 'The View'?' It's a joke!
"I know you think that I don't [make jokes] any more, I do, I make funnies. I don't fart on air for real!"
She was previously reported to have broke wind whilst sitting on a sofa with Claire Danes and Joy Behar in 2011, and though her co-star appeared to be able to smell the scent, the actress claims it's simply a joke.
Whoopi added: "This is the second time I've covered something like this because sometimes I hear something and I think, 'Oh, we got to do something to get attention from it,' and so I try to move it and that's the fastest 'cause the fart joke works [instantly] like that.
"So everybody relax, I didn't fart on air, it was a joke."
The incident happened this week when a camera was focused firmly on Ashanti when suddenly a loud eruption was heard.
At the time Whoopi said: "Excuse me! Oooh, oooh.", and members of the panel feigned distress at the smell.
