David and Victoria Beckham and their sons

David and Victoria Beckham are renting an almost identical mansion near their new home to watch over renovation works.

The retired soccer star and his fashion designer wife have bought a £45 million property on one of the city's most exclusive streets and are living 90ft away in an almost identical house while they spend £3 million renovating it.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "The chances of finding two available multi-million pound homes in the same posh, residential street are exceedingly slim.

"But Victoria and David want to be very hands-on with their new home and they are spending a small fortune on the renovations.

"It makes sense to live on the same street and means they can both pop over the road to check on the progress, and keep the builders on their toes."

Victoria, 39, and her David, 38, have drawn up elaborate plans for their new home, including a £500,000 futuristic kitchen, which is being designed by interior expert and friend, Kelly Hoppen.

The seven-bedroom, eight bathroom property will also include recreational areas for the couple's children - Brooklyn, 14, Romeo, 11, Cruz, eight, and their two-year-old daughter Harper, along with a dedicated 'man den' for David.

The family are set to move in just before Christmas and have had help from David's dad Tony.

The source added: "While Victoria has been in New York, David has been spending a lot of time at the bought mansion, helping Tony and his team lug furniture backwards and forwards.

"The children are excited to see things slowly taking shape too, so the new house really is turning in to a big family project."

The Kensington property also boasts a spa, indoor swimming pool, cinema, gym and panic room, to ensure the family's safety.
