Tony Blackburn "made up" his claim he'd slept with 250 women.
The 81-year-old broadcaster raised eyebrows with his lothario antics before settling down with second wife Debbie - the mother of his 27-year-old daughter Victoria - in 1992 but he's now admitted he lied about his sexual encounters in his 1985 autobiography because he was tired of being quizzed on his personal life and ghost writer Cheryl Garnsey had told him she needed more "rock 'n' roll" anecdotes for the book.
He told Radio Times magazine: "She [the writer] said she hadn't got enough sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.
"Well, I don’t do drugs and I made up this number because I was fed up being asked about my personal life."
But Tony - who also has son Simon, 50, with first wife Tessa Wyatt - didn't even read the book before it was published.
He admitted: "Not my best moment, to be honest.
"I didn’t read my own autobiography. It was stupid.”
Tony broadcast his final BBC local radio show on Sunday (24.03.24) after 43 years but will still present ;Sounds of the 60s' and 'Tony Blackburn's Golden Hour' on BBC Radio 2 at weekends because he can't bear the idea of retiring.
He said: “Just think, I’m on the absolute, number one music station at the age of 81! I’m more at home with myself, enjoying life, more than ever. Well, I’d like to be a bit younger…
“I can’t stand the idea of not working. It’s important to keep your brain going. Lots of people go to pieces when they retire. I don’t want to overstay my welcome. If I turn up one day and don’t know where I am, I will give up but, at the moment, it seems all right.”
