Tina Knowles-Lawson has loved spending quality time with her grandkids amid the COVID-19 lockdowns.
The 67-year-old mother of Beyonce and Solange Knowles has revealed one of the major upsides of spending the past year at home amid the ongoing health crisis has been the increased quality time she’s been able to spend with her grandchildren.
Tina is grandmother to Beyonce’s three children – nine-year-old Blue Ivy and three-year-old twins Rumi and Sir – whom she has with husband Jay-Z, as well as Solange’s 16-year-old son Daniel, whom she has with her ex Daniel Smith.
She said: "The best thing was of course seeing my grandchildren almost every day. I think it made us appreciate each other. Seeing friends and seeing family, you realise what was important, so I think a lot of good came from it."
On top of spending time with her grandkids, Tina also got to focus on children she mentors as a result of quarantine, as she was still able to connect with them via Zoom calls.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: "I mentor kids so I got to connect with them every week. It was good for them to learn and pay attention. I think it's been a great lesson as well."
At the beginning of the pandemic, Tina wasn’t able to see her extended family, and said the toughest part of the experience had been staying away from her grandchildren.
She said in May last year: "The two babies that are two, they don't really understand, so on Saturday we got together from a safe distance, we all went to Bey's at a distance. We all got tested, Kelly was there, and I got to see my grandchildren from afar and it was hard. That's been the hardest part about this."
