Sting wants Justin Bieber to "enjoy" this moment in his career.
The legendary rocker has enjoyed huge success both as a solo artist and with his former band The Police, but he knows public adoration and hit albums don't last forever.
Sting's advice to 19-year-old Justin, who has been having hit record after hit record and selling out arenas across the world, is to have as much fun as he can at the moment and stop getting dragged into trouble.
The 61-year-old musician told The Guardian newspaper: "It's fun to have a hit. But fame and ego and money can do terrible things. I know it's a cliché but you still see people going through it. Look at Justin Bieber - it's like he's in free fall. I just hope he survives it because a lot of people don't.
"If I could give any advice to young musicians, it would be this: just try and enjoy it, because that truly explosive bit doesn't last forever."
Sting - who is married to Trudie Styler - feels he was better equipped to deal with fame than other pop stars in the 80s, such as Michael Jackson, because he had already matured and become a father by the age of 27 when The Police first found success.
The 'Message in a Bottle' singer explained: "Well, I'm glad I had a proper job before this. I'm glad I was once a teacher with a pension plan and a mortgage."
Sting - real name Gordon Sumner - insists he worked hard to launch his career in music and believes his insecurities as a child helped him develop into a confident adult.
The singer - who is getting ready to release his eleventh solo album 'The Last Ship' later this month - added: "It hasn't been easy at all. I worked f***ing hard to make this all happen. I did the psychological work as a child dealing with unhappiness, insecurity and fear. And then that bore fruit."
