Sophia Loren feels "scared to death" amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The 86-year-old actress - who lives in Geneva, Switzerland - has admitted to fearing for her life during the global health crisis.
Sophia shared: "I don’t know what to do with my life, because I am at home. I don’t leave. I don’t want to go out. I’m scared to death."
The iconic actress admitted that her new film, 'The Life Ahead', is one of the few things she currently feels enthusiastic about.
She told The Independent: "The film is the only thing that I feel close to because it’s for me. It’s mine. It’s my creature."
The movie is directed by her son Edoardo Ponti, and in it, she plays the part of a Holocaust survivor and former sex worker who looks after the children of other women.
Reflecting on the project, she said: "The role, it was beautiful. She was strong, she was fragile, she was funny, touching … everything that a woman is and everything I have always wanted to bring on the screen.
"In my career, I’ve always tried to play women with a strong character."
Sophia made a conscious decision to take a step back from the movie business during the 80s and has only appeared in films sporadically since then.
At the time, the actress was determined to spend quality time with her family.
Sophia - who has sons Edoardo, 48, and Carlo, 52 - shared: "One day I was at home, and I was thinking, ‘My God, I’m working so hard since I was 17 years old'.
"In the meantime, I got married, and I had two children, and I thought to myself, ‘My God, I don’t enjoy them anymore because I cannot be with them anymore.’"
