Sophia Bush thinks fame can be "tricky".
The 38-year-old actress - who starred as Brooke Davis in 'One Tree Hill' - has made a concerted effort to keep her private life a little more quiet over recent years.
She shared: "It's hard to have nothing that's yours. And when you are a person who lives in the public eye, everybody wants to pick over everything and that can be really tricky.
"And, I also grew up in the early aughts when girls were raked over the coals for any choices that they made. And I just was like, 'I don't think I like this.'"
Sophia has been keen to shift the focus away from her private life. Instead, she wants to raise awareness of more important issues, like women's rights.
Speaking to 'Entertainment Tonight', the actress explained: "I don't know, just eventually it bothered me, that rather than doing what we've done, talking about work, substance, education, interview shows, what we believe in, what's going on with women's rights. It would be, 'What are you wearing? And how's your boyfriend?,' and it's like, 'What does that have to do with anything about my work, my life?'"
Earlier this month, Sophia admitted she found it “so hard to handle” fame as a young person.
The actress found life in the public eye “traumatising” because she was expected to be “perfect” all the time.
She said: "Even the aspects that we did experience were really traumatising for me.
"It was so hard to handle, this notion that everyone wants you to fail so they can make fun of you but also you’re meant to be perfect but no one knows how to be perfect, let alone an adult because we were 20 years old. We were children."
