The veteran actor is still in demand to star in movies but now aged 82 - and with over 130 films under his belt - he refuses to travel without his beloved wife of 42 years.
Sir Michael filmed in Switzerland - which is a short two-hour-flight from his home in the UK - for his upcoming movie 'Youth', and declared: "If it was the Belgian Congo or somewhere, I wouldn't do it. I go nowhere without my wife. Nowhere."
The former model and British star met after Shakira, now 68, appeared in a Maxwell House coffee advert and Sir Michael asked a friend for her telephone number.
And he credits the love of his life, with whom he has 42-year-old daughter Natasha, for being a calming influence on him.
Speaking about when they first met, he told The Telegraph magazine: "She didn't say, 'You've got to stop drinking.' But being with her made me want to stay sober and be alive. And of course she was very anxious for me to stay alive."
