Simon Cowell is disappointed that One Direction weren't nominated for an Oscar.
The 'Story of My Life' singers - who were mentored by Simon on the 'X Factor' - broke box office records with their documentary 'This Is Us', but failed to receive a nomination from the voting panel and were also left out of the Best Original Song category, and it's 75-track shortlist, for which Simon expected them to be nominated for 'Best Song Ever'.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "Simon is disappointed. Some of the tracks on the list are virtually unknown."
Meanwhile, legendary film producer Harvey Weinstein has claimed Simon is "on a mission" to win an Oscar with his production company Syco Films.
He said: "Simon is very focused and determined about making more movies and setting up a presence in this industry ... He's on a mission to be an Oscar contender."
Weinstein - who has won two Academy Awards for Best Picture for 'The Kings Speech' and 'The Artist' - has also admitted that he wouldn't mind having the 54-year-old media mogul as competition.
He told The Sun newspaper: "If he wants to take on me, take on everybody, that's great ... I think he'll be a great success. He's very shrewd and absolutely brilliant with talent - he makes them feel relaxed and secure."
This year's Oscars ceremony will take place tonight (02.03.14) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
