So far former member Zayn Malik is the only person from the boy band to release his own material but Simon - who put the group together on 'The X Factor' - has confirmed that the remaining four young men are working on their own material during their current hiatus.

When asked by E! News if there are "any more solo projects for the boys", Simon replied: "Yeah, there will be more, I'm absolutely sure of that."

He went on to praise Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson for their hard work over the past five years and insisted they deserve their break.

He said: "Well, it was always going to come. You can't work at that level; the way they did. I mean lots of things are going to be announced over the next few months, but they were, are, the nicest people, you know, to work with. Hardworking, appreciate everything, so it won't be the end."

And Simon also had some kind words for Zayn, who dramatically walked out on the group during their 'On The Road Again' tour in March 2015.

He said: "We were involved with what label he went on, and he's still signed to our company, so, he's done fantastic, and he's showing that he's a great vocalist and very talented."
