The 63-year-old actress suffered a stroke in 2001 and took seven years to fully recover from the near-fatal brain haemorrhage, and has now said the lengthy battle made her feel as though she was losing her “beauty”.

Speaking in a preview clip of her upcoming 'Super Soul' interview with Oprah Winfrey, she said: “My radiance went away. It isn’t so much your beauty as your radiance. It’s a radiance and a magnetism and a presence …”

Oprah then interjected to say: “A vibrancy that comes from health.”

And Sharon added: “Yes, it comes from health and well-being and youth. It comes from confidence too. And when you are in this business that we’re in, they start telling you that you don’t have it anymore and you start believing it.”

The ‘Basic Instinct’ star spoke to Oprah ahead of the release of her upcoming memoir, 'The Beauty of Living Twice', and said she chose to release the book at this time in her life because she believes she’s now at her most powerful.

She said: “I think that as we grow older we have this societal pressure where people start to try and tell us that our worth is diminished. And I think this is a time in our lives when our wroth is the most enhanced. I think when we are 40, as women, we get to this incredibly powerful place and it’s the time when I have to say that I believe the white male society starts to tell women you don’t have worth.

“When you’re 40 you’re told your worth becomes less and I believe that’s because it’s the first time in your life when your worth becomes so much more.”

‘The Beauty of Living Twice’ will hit bookshelves on Tuesday, March 30.

Sharon’s full interview with Oprah airs on March 27 on Discovery+ and on the “Super Soul” podcast starting March 31.
