Sharon Stone lost the ability to read after suffering a brain aneurysm.
The 57-year-old actress was hospitalised in 2001 and admits the condition - a bulging of the blood vessels - left her with a number of long-lasting side effects.
She said: "I had a massive nine-day brain haemorrhage...
"I lost some of my hearing in my right ear for a while. I lost my ability to read for a couple of years. I lost feeling in my left leg to my knee, I couldn't walk at first. I couldn't write my name for a very long time...I stuttered.
"So don't have one."
The 'Basic Instinct' actress posed nude for Harper's Bazaar earlier this year and admitted she felt confident in doing so because she has "accepted" herself for who she is.
Discussing the shoot, she said: "I think the key to happiness is accepting yourself."
By the time you're in your 50's you gotta like it...then what? I think if you're gonna like others you've got to like yourself,' she continued."
However, she admitted she also had some digital help with the finished images.
She told 'The Late Show' host Stephen Colbert: "And it's also good to like the air brusher.
"There's a lot to like there."
