Selena Gomez didn't want to be with Justin Bieber because he was "getting into drugs".

The 'Come and Get It' singer had an on-off relationship with the 'Believe' hitmaker from 2010 but called things off for good earlier this year as she was growing increasingly unhappy with his behaviour, which has included arrests for driving offences and alleged marijuana use.

Her grandfather Ricardo Gomez said: "He's been getting into trouble a lot, we blame it on the people he hangs around with. His friends are bad influences. Selena even told us that she didn't want to be with him because he was getting into drugs."

Selena and Justin used to visit Ricardo and his wife Mary at their home in Texas, and they say the 20 year old star has changed a great deal since then.

Ricardo added to America's OK! magazine "He was a nice little fella, totally different from what he is now. Lately we are upset by is behaviour. They say Selena is a good influence on him and that she's the one thing that will help him control himself."

However, despite Justin going off the rails, Selena's grandparents say she's finding it hard to give him up.

Ricardo added: "I think she loves him. If he were to eventually propose... I don't know. We'd be happy, because she's happy with him."
