Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair re-created their iconic 'Cruel Intentions' kiss with a COVID-secure twist for the 2020 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest Of All Time.
The pair won the Best Kiss award at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, and on Sunday night (06.12.20) they were honoured with the Legendary Lip Lock accolade.
In homage to the scene from the 1999 teen rom-com drama - in which they starred as Kathryn Merteuil and Cecile Caldwell respectively - the pair attempted to kiss again, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, as they went to lock lips, a glass screen hilariously dropped down between them, leaving them slobbering all over it.
Sarah and Selma were sat outside on patio chairs to discuss the famous kiss and recalled how it helped "so many" young people identify and feel confident with their sexuality.
Selma, 48, said: “I think the reason the kiss has resonated with people for so long is not just for the initial shock value but because it was a catalyst for so many young people to help them realise certain aspects of their sexuality and help make people comfortable to be who they really are."
To which Sarah, 43, replied: “It also represented a paradigm shift to a new dynamic towards acceptance in pop culture. Also, it was super hot.”
Before attempting the kiss again - which they did manage to re-create at the 2002 MTV Movie Awards - Selma said: “So as a special thanks. We’d like to recreate it.”
The last time the Hollywood duo re-created the lip-locking session was when they reunited with co-star Reese Witherspoon to watch a musical parody of their film 'Los Feliz' in 2015.
The Vanessa Hudgens-hosted ceremony also saw the likes of Kevin Bacon, Gal Gadot, the late Chadwick Boseman, and Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler take home golden GOAT awards.
