Saoirse Ronan purposefully misspelled Ed Sheeran's "Galway Grill" tattoo.
The 23-year-old actress appears in the music video for the musician's hit single 'Galway Girl', during which she is seen inking the phrase into his arm, and misspelling 'Girl' as 'Grill'.
However, after Ed, 26, spoke on stage about the inking and blamed her for the mishap, the blonde beauty has now claimed that it was a deliberate decision in order to appear "funny and edgy".
Speaking about the tattoo, Saoirse said: "It's not a mistake. Ed got up on stage like two days after we did it and said that I had made the mistake, and it made me look illiterate. And I'm just here to say that it was all planned. Because we thought it would be funny and edgy if we misspelled 'Girl' and made it 'Grill' instead. Because we're so clever."
And the 'Brooklyn' actress insists that the etching is a real tattoo that is permanently inked on Ed's body, and says she was "terrified" during the process.
During an appearance on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' on Wednesday (08.11.17), she added: "It's an actual tattoo. When we were doing the music video, Ed, he was amazing. He was getting ready to do the tour and all that stuff, and he shot the music video himself. He used this rig, and the camera recorded us for a couple of days, and so we ended it by going to this famous pub back at home where there was a birthday party going on for someone he knows, and he wanted to get this tattoo. So that's my handwriting, and I was terrified."
Previously, the 'Castle on the Hill' hitmaker previously claimed the spelling mistake was all Saoirse's doing, and said he was "proud" of her for the apparent prank.
Speaking on stage back in April, he said: "When we were filming it I meant to get a tattoo of her handwriting saying Galway Girl from her point of view.
"It actually says Galway Grill. G-R-I-L-L. She really took the p*** out of me - full on.
"I haven't actually told anyone that yet. I'm actually quite proud of her. It's the kind of thing I would do."
